Smooth Fox Terrier

If you are a pet lover, then smooth fox terrier should not sound as a new breed for you. These are fun loving playful dogs that can make your environment livelier. The origin of smooth fox terrier is not documented but studies reveal that these dogs belonged to 18th century. Many people believe that smooth fox terrier and wire fox terrier are variations of the same breed but it is not true. They are completely different. Smooth fox terrier is said to be the successor of Black and Tan with traces of Bull terrier and Beagle as well.

Smooth fox terriers are cute dogs that are predominantly white in color with markings of tan and black. These dogs are rigid with distinctive heads. The coat has fine hairs that are smooth and consistent. The fine coat has earned the name smooth fox terrier for these dogs. This breed of dogs is extremely adaptable to your family. You can train them easily and they listen to your commands. If proper attention is paid, these dogs are highly friendly. These dogs are family pets. They have to be considered as part of the family and should be cared. They get bored easily and hence you have to spend more time with smooth fox terriers

Smooth fox terriers are ferocious dogs that are always to take up a fight whenever the chance arises. When you grow some other pets in your home, you have to deal with these dogs carefully as they are quarrelsome by nature. These dogs are often found to pick up fight with other street dogs even if the opponents are larger in size. Smooth fox terriers are watching dogs and they often bark. Sometimes their sharp bark may be annoying and may create problems with neighbors. These dogs are extremely possessive and it is better to avoid irritating them by taking their belongings.

If proper food, exercise, and medical care is given, smooth fox terrier can live upto 14 years. While dogs may suffer from deafness while some other minor problems are also found in these dogs. Post nasal drip, distichiasis, lens luxation, legg-perthes, shoulder dislocation, and cataracts are common problems found in smooth fox terrier. These dogs require a veteran doctor to take care of them medically. If you provide proper vaccination, many problems can be identified earlier.

Care has to be taken if you nurture smooth fox terrier as your pet dogs. You must brush the coat often to monitor the health conditions of your pet. To prevent cavities and other tooth related problems, smooth fox terriers must be brushed at least twice a week using the dog brush and paste. These playful dogs require nutritious foods and regular exercises. It is better to take them for a walk or jog every day. When you are growing your pets in apartments, you have to train them for the atmosphere from the puppyhood. These dogs have the tendency to explore and it is not advisable to leave the children uncared with smooth fox terrier.
